Suspended Logan mayor Luke Smith has been charged with assault, obstructing police and wilful damage after being arrested at Meadowbrook, south of Brisbane, on Friday morning.

He was taken into custody after officers were called to a disturbance.

Late on Friday, police confirmed that Mr Smith, 48, would remain in the watch house for the weekend.

Mr Smith was seen with a bloody wound to his forehead as detectives escorted him from Logan Central police station on Friday afternoon.

Several scratch marks were also visible on his face.

He was transported in the back of an unmarked police car to Beenleigh watch house, where he was formally charged.

Police said Mr Smith would appear before the Beenleigh Magistrates Court next Monday.

Earlier this year, he was suspended as mayor after being charged with perjury and official corruption by Queensland's Crime and Corruption Commission.

Mr Smith vowed to fight those charges.
