Suspended Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh, who was arrested, allegedly with two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorists earlier this year, was granted bail by a court on Friday as the Delhi Police failed to file a charge sheet within the stipulated time period.
The court proceedings took place through videoconferencing. Observing that the Special Cell of the Delhi Police had failed to file a charge sheet within the mandatory statutory period of 90 days, the court granted Mr. Singh and co-accused Irfan Shafi Mir bail on furnishing a personal bond of ₹lakh and two sureties of like amount.
The Investigating Officer of the case submitted the status report, as per which Singh and Mir were arrested on March 14 and March 19 respectively.
However, both will continue to remain in judicial custody in connection with the case registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in January. “Accused Davinder Singh continues to be in judicial custody in the NIA case. We have adequate evidence against him and he will be charge-sheeted in due course,” said an NIA statement on Friday.
The suspended police officer was first arrested on January 11, while allegedly travelling with two Hizb men on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway. Subsequently, the NIA took over the case and arrested several others for their alleged involvement.
