Suspended Congress MP Preneet Kaur joins BJP, praises PM Modi's leadership

Preneet Kaur, Lok Sabha MP from Punjab’s Patiala and former Congress leader, joined the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Thursday.

Ms. Kaur, a four-time MP and a former Union Minister is the wife of former Punjab Chief Minister and BJP leader Amarinder Singh. She was suspended from the Congress last year on the pretext of alleged anti-party activities.

She joined the BJP in New Delhi, in the presence of national general secretaries Vinod Tawde, Tarun Chugh and Arun Singh. BJP’s in charge of Punjab Vijay Rupani and State president Sunil Jakhar were also present.

Mr. Tawde said Ms. Kaur’s joining the BJP will strengthen the party in Punjab, given her seniority, experience and long years in Parliament and public life.

Ms. Kaur, who is expected to be the party’s candidate from Patiala for the coming Lok Sabah election, said she was thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president J.P. Nadda and the entire party leadership for giving her the chance to serve the people of Punjab.

“Everybody across the country felt proud about the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi. The stature of the country had risen high globally under his leadership,” she said.

Later Ms. Kaur met with the Mr. Nadda at his residence in Delhi.
