Suspects remain in custody after murder, teen appears in court, bin strikes off

Suspects arrested in connection with Elle Edwards murder remain in custody

Police arrested a man and a woman after Elle Edwards was shot outside the Lighthouse pub

A Merseyside police spokesperson confirmed to the ECHO this morning, Wednesday, December 28 that the pair remained in custody following their arrests.

The 26-year-old was shot in the head in front of friends and onlookers after a gunman opened fire outside the pub. Elle Edwards had been celebrating her sister's return home from Dubai for Christmas with friends.

Four men were also injured in the shooting. A 28-year-old man from Wirral continues to receive medical treatment. Police said the attacker drove off in an A-class Mercedes, driven by a male driver.

A 30-year-old man from Tranmere was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. A 19-year-old woman from Rock Ferry was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. They are both still being held for further questioning.

Merseyside police do not believe Elle Edwards to have been the target of the shooting.

Teen appears in court charged with murdering young woman before Christmas

19-year-old Liam Cain is accused of Courtney Boorne's murder after she died following an incident at a block of flats.

Courtney was found critically injured on the afternoon of Friday, December 23 at a block of flats on Quarry Green Heights in Kirkby. The 20-year-old later died in hospital.

Liam Cain, of Skipton Road in Anfield, attended Liverpool Magistrates Court this morning, Wednesday, charged with her murder. He only spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth during a brief hearing.

He was not asked to enter a plea. He will appear before Liverpool Crown Court tomorrow, Thursday.

More than £3,000 has been donated to her loved ones via an online crowdfunding page.

Wirral's bins are being collected after strikes called off

A Christmas Day summit saw strike action suspended, with bin crews back out on the streets.

Over 200 Biffa employees on the outsourced Wirral Council waste collection contract were set to escalate their industrial action. Further strikes had been planned between Christmas and New Year and again in January.

Biffa staff were set to walk out again from today (December 28) until Saturday December 31. More strikes had been expected to be held between January 3 and 7 and January 16 and 21.

Those strikes are now off following an improved pay offer. All planned strikes have been cancelled.
