Suspects named as cocaine, cannabis and cash seized in car swoop

Two suspects have been named after cocaine, cannabis and cash were seized in a police swoop.

Officers surrounded the red Fiat Punto during the operation in St Helens.

After searching the car and the two men inside the Fiat officers found the drugs plus cash and mobile phones.

Police have now charged two men in connection with the incident which happened in College Street around 5.30pm on Sunday.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We have charged two men from Wigan with drugs and driving offences after a car was stopped in St Helens on Sunday 27 June.

"At around 5.30pm, St Helens Targeted Team officers on patrol stopped a red Fiat Punto on College Street.

"Following a search of the occupants and vehicle, a large quantity of cannabis and a quantity of suspected cocaine were seized, along with mobile phones and cash."

Naming the suspects a spokesperson added: "Charlie Brogan, 20, of Moss Street Wigan, has now been charged with possession of Class A and Class B drugs.

"Matthew Madeley, 31, of Gorman Street Wigan, has now been charged with driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, and driving a car without an MOT."

Both men have been remanded in custody and will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday, July 19.
