Suspects named after woman in 60s 'kidnapped from house' on Christmas Day

Two people have been charged after a woman in her 60s was allegedly forced from a house and into a car on Christmas Day.

The woman was reportedly 'threatened' and then forced from a house in Cleveland Close , Kirkby, and into an Audi TT by three men on Christmas night.

The Audi was then involved in a crash nearby on Bank Lane in Melling.

The woman who was forced into the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the car was held by police at the scene.

There was a major police response to the incident. Forensic officers were sent to Cleveland Close on December 26.

A man and woman have now been charged in relation to the incident, police have said.

Geoffrey Allan Hayes, 43, of Castlefield, Ambleside, has been charged with robbery, kidnap, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance. 

Hayes has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Liverpool Crown court on January 15.

Sarah Howitt, 39, of Gloucester Street, Barrow-in-Furness was charged with robbery. She has been remanded into custody and is is set to appear at Liverpool Crown court on January 15.
