Suspects in fatal boxing tournament shooting arrested in NSW

Heavily armed police in New South Wales have arrested two men wanted over a fatal shooting at a boxing event in Melbourne's inner north-west last Friday.

A 30-year-old man from the Melbourne suburb of Craigieburn died outside the Melbourne Pavilion in Kensington while a boxing tournament was underway inside, after what police called a "targeted attack".

Two others were treated in hospital for gunshot wounds and were later released.

Last night New South Wales Police arrested two men, aged 25 and 27, at an apartment building in Bankstown, in Sydney's south-west.

Members of the NSW Police Tactical Operations Unit made the arrests, with one man taken away in a police van and the 27-year-old man removed on a stretcher.

Police said he was treated by paramedics after jumping from a balcony to a lower floor.

They said he was expected to be charged with murder under a Victorian arrest warrant.

The pair are expected to be interviewed by Victorian police officers from the Echo Taskforce, which investigates Middle Eastern crime and bikie gangs.

Victorian detectives will apply in court for the pair to be extradited to Melbourne.

They are also looking for two other suspects in relation to the shooting.

Police said there were about 1,000 people at the boxing tournament and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
