Two suspects were arrested after a man was shot in his leg at a house.
Police rushed to the home, on April 24, following reports a man had suffered a number of wounds to his body after gunfire.
The armed attacker was outside the property, on Poplars Avenue, in the Orford area of Warrington, when he fired the weapon towards the address, hitting the victim in his leg.
Today, detectives confirmed they had detained two men, on April 26, in the neighbouring county of Lancashire, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
They are in custody and are being questioned by officers.
The ages of the suspects have not been released by Cheshire Police who described the investigation as "complex and fast-moving."
It is also not known whether the victim was hit while inside the house, with the bullets possibly flying through a window, or if he was outside the address at the time of the attack.
The victim, 55, remains in hospital in a serious condition, but his injuries are not life-threatening.
Police said their investigation was ongoing and detectives were "following a number of lines of enquiry."
Superintendent Martin Cleworth said: “I would like to make it clear that we are doing everything in our powers to tackle this sort of criminality in Warrington and to bring those responsible to justice.
“We understand how concerning this incident is for those living in the community and we have increased patrols to provide reassurance for residents.
“This is a fast moving and complex investigation and would appeal to anyone with information to please get in touch.”
Friday night's shooting is the latest in a worrying spate of recent serious criminal incidents in Warrington.
Earlier this week, in a separate incident, police revealed an improvised explosive device left in the garden of a home, nine days ago, was a targeted attack linked to serious and organised crime.
That also happened in Orford, on Birtles Road, less than a mile from the gunfire three days ago.
It is not believed that the incidents are linked.
