Suspected Wallsend arson attack captured on camera as CCTV shows car engulfed in flames

A suspected arson attack has been caught on camera.

CCTV shows the two men pouring a substance over a car parked on Barton Close in Wallsend just before Christmas.

The attack happened shortly before 10pm on December 20 and the fire had to be extinguished by firefighters.

Fortunately nobody was injured.

The shocking CCTV footage has now been released by police investigating the incident.

The footage shows two men with their hoods pulled up dousing the front of the car with an unknown liquid.

One of them pedals off camera on his bike while the second starts the fire which engulfs the car in flames.

He then also cycles away on a bike.

Officers are now appealing to the public for help and are asking anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time to get in touch with police.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Steven Hakin, of Northumbria Police , said: “This incident could have been so much worse and we need to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

“If you can help then we urge you to get in touch, the smallest detail could help officers.”

Anyone who recognises the men, or has information that may assist the police investigation, should contact officers on 101 quoting log 1296 20/12/19.
