Suspected thieves attempt to steal NHS worker's motorbike at Newcastle's RVI

Four suspected thieves attempted to steal an NHS worker's motorbike from the RVI in Newcastle, police have said.

Officers have released CCTV footage of four men, riding on two motorcycles, entering the mutli-storey car park at the hospital on Monday at about 12.30pm.

It was reported they tired to steal the bike before they were disturbed by someone.

They fled the scene but returned at about 2.45pm when they were disturbed again.

A police investigation has now been launched to identify those responsible.

Detective chief inspector Jamie Pitt, of Northumbria Police, said: “Our specialist Operation Benelli team are investigating this crime and working hard to identify those responsible.

“Our NHS workers are doing an incredible job and risking their own lives to save others. We know that the public will join us in saying how proud of them we are.

“We know that the public would also agree that this type of offending is despicable, particularly when thieves have targeted NHS workers during these unprecedented times.

“Today we are asking for the support of the public in our investigation and we need anyone who knows those involved to get in touch.

“The males are all wearing helmets but we know that there will be people in the community who know who they are and we would ask you to tell us what they know.

“We all need to come together as a community now more than ever and I know that anyone with information will want to do the right thing.

“In the meantime we have focused patrols around the RVI to deter any further incidents and reassure staff that we are here to keep them safe.”

Anyone with information is asked to report it online on the Northumbria Police website quoting log 548 of April 13.

If you don’t have access to the internet you can call 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
