A man killed by Chicago police Monday in Belmont Central has been identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Luis Vasquez, 42, was shot by police in a North Side apartment after two people told an off-duty Chicago police officer they were kidnapped, police and the medical examiner’s office said. Vasquez was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he later died.
Vasquez, the alleged kidnapper, has a lengthy criminal arrest record, including convictions for disarming a police officer, attempted murder and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to Cook County court records.
No officers were injured in the confrontation.
