Human remains found near Aireys Inlet after search for Elisa Curry

Police on the beach close to where human remains were found near Anglesea.

Victorian police are investigating after human remains were found near Anglesea on the state's Surf Coast.

They were discovered by a local walking their dog at Point Roadknight, a popular surf spot, this morning.

A police spokesman said it was too early to say if the remains were those of missing Melbourne woman Elisa Curry, who was last seen at her family's holiday home at nearby Aireys Inlet late last month.

"The remains will need to be examined by a pathologist to establish the identity of the person and cause of death," a police statement said.

Police could be seen combing the beach, which has been cordoned off.

Anglesea is about 10 kilometres north-east of Aireys Inlet.

Emergency service crews had been searching an area near Ms Curry's family holiday home at Aireys Inlet in their search for the missing mother.

Volunteers and several police units, including water police, have been working to find Ms Curry.

Her phone is missing and her dog was found roaming the streets the day after she disappeared.
