Suspected heroin worth £2K found on Belfast street

Suspected heroin with a street value of around £2,000 has been picked up off a South Belfast street.

Police say, whilst officers were on patrol in Botanic Avenue, they discovered the bag of suspected drugs on the ground

Enquiries are ongoing to find the owner of the bag.

A spokesperson added: "This is quite a substantial amount of heroin which was more than likely going to be dealt on the streets of South Belfast. The consequences of a child finding and picking this bag up and consuming it doesn’t bear thinking about. Enquiries are ongoing to find the owner of the bag.

"Police continue to engage with and educate drug users and sign post them to organisations which can assist with their addictions.

"If you have any information in relation to drug dealing, which causes great harm and fear in our communities, please contact Police on 101 or you can report the information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
