Suspected gas leak probe after double death at Scots flat

A suspected gas leak is being probed after two men were found dead in a flat in Stirling.

Their bodies were discovered in Cowane Street shortly after midday and a major police probe has been launched.

SGN, who investigate problems with gas networks in Scotland, were called to the property early this afternoon.

The Record understands they were called in by Police Scotland and that a suspected gas leak is forming part of the police investigation.

The deaths are currently being treated as unexplained while investigations take place.

Detectives were spotted entering the block of flats earlier, with cops standing guard outside of the property.

A SGN engineer was also at the incident and could be seen taking equipment in and out of the building.

A spokesperson for SGN said: "We were called to a property in Cowane Street, Stirling this afternoon to support the emergency services following the discovery of two people who had died.

"We will co-operate fully with the emergency services to investigate the circumstances around their deaths and our thoughts are with the families of the people who died."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.10pm on Friday, 2 April, officers were called to a property on Cowane Street, Stirling, following the sudden deaths of two men.

“The deaths are currently being treated as unexplained, pending the results of post-mortems, and enquiries are ongoing.

“As with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
