Suspected gas leak in Edinburgh city centre prompts emergency response with fire crews on scene

Emergency services are at the scene of a suspected gas leak in Edinburgh city centre.

Firefighters raced to St Andrew Square after receiving a call at 4.15pm on Saturday, January 15.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) deployed two vehicles to the scene and remain in attendance on Saturday evening.

It is not yet known whether anyone has been injured or if there have been any evacuations as a result of the incident.

An SFRS spokesperson said: "We received a call of a suspected gas leak at 4.15pm on Saturday, January 15, at St Andrew Square in Edinburgh.

"Two vehicles have been deployed and are currently in attendance."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers are currently in attendance at St Andrew Square, Edinburgh and are assisting the Scottish and Fire and Rescue Service with traffic management."
