Suspected Encrochat drug dealer charged after £50,000 seized during house raid

A Wirral man has been charged with Class A and B drug offences in connection with Encrochat investigations.

George Marsh, aged 33 and of Park Road North in Birkenhead was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply cocaine, cannabis and ketamine yesterday, Thursday 17 June, as part of Operation Venetic during a raid at a house and container unit in which a Rolex watch and £50,000 in cash was seized.

Operation Venetic is a national investigation into the EncroChat phone network, which was used by criminals across Europe and yesterday's arrest was part of Merseyside Police's response to that operation.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed Marsh had been charged and remanded in custody and will appear at Wirral adult remand court today, Friday 18 June.

The Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We have charged a Wirral man with Class A and B drug offences.

"George Marsh, of Park Road North, Birkenhead was arrested yesterday, Thursday 17th June, on suspicion of conspiracy to supply cocaine, cannabis and ketamine.

"He was remanded into custody to appear at Wirral adult remand court today, Friday 18th June.

"The charge comes as part of the Merseyside Police response to Operation Venetic: a national investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices, commonly referred to as Encrochat."
