Suspected Encrochat dealer named after drug conspiracy charge

A man suspected of dealing cocaine and heroin has been charged by officers investigating criminals using mobile encryption service EncroChat.

Merseyside police confirmed Anthony Wilson, 41, of Lentworth Drive, Worsley, Greater Manchester, was charged in the investigation known as Operation Venetic.

He will appear in Wirral Magistrates Court today with class A and class B drug offences.

Operation Venetic, also known as Encrochat, is a national investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices which saw criminals adopt and hide behind code names.

A Merseyside police spokesperson said: "We’ve charged a man from Greater Manchester with Class A and B drugs offences.

"Anthony Wilson, 41, of Lentworth Drive, Worsley, Greater Manchester, has been charged with Conspiracy to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis.

"He was remanded to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court this morning, Friday 27th August.

"The charge comes as part of the Merseyside Police response to Operation Venetic: a national investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices, commonly referred to as Encrochat.
