Suspected drug driver arrested after three-car crash in Wigan

A suspected drug driver has been arrested after a three-vehicle crash in Wigan.

Police were called to reports of a collision in Gathurst Road, in Orrell, at about 3.45pm today (Wednesday, October 21).

Three vehicles were involved in the smash, which happened close to the junction with Orrell Road.

Officers say they arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

He has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

No one else is thought to have been injured.

The aftermath of the crash caused long queues on roads in the surrounding area, including Ormskirk Road and around junction 26 of the M6.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 3.45pm today (Wednesday 21 October 2020), officers were called to Gathurst Road, Orrell to reports of a road traffic collision.

"Emergency services attended and enquiries established three vehicles had been involved in collision.

"One man, aged 46, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

"No other injuries have been reported.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
