Suspected drink driver that ploughed Audi into Leeds tattoo shop fled the scene with serious injuries

A suspected drink driver who smashed through a shop window in Leeds allegedly assaulted police before running from the scene with serious injuries.

The driver of a dark-coloured Audi A4 failed to stop for police on Richardshaw Road in Stanningley at 2.29am today.

He sped off down the street towards Town Street, where he lost control and slammed into the front of Creating Utopia Tattoo Studio.

CCTV footage showed a police car arriving moments later and two officers running towards the crashed Audi.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police revealed the driver then left the scene.

He was later tracked down and at 5.40am he was arrested at an address in Pudsey on suspicion of drink driving, failing to stop and assault of police officers.

The spokesperson added: "The man was taken to hospital, where he was found to have serious injuries and is continuing to receive treatment."

A huge police cordon has been set up across Richardshaw Lane, Bradford Road and Town Street in Stanningley. Access has been blocked for motorists.
