Suspected drink driver 'in handcuffs on floor' after car lands on roof

A suspected drink driver was spotted "in handcuffs on the floor" after a car landed on its roof near Cheshire Oaks.

The dramatic scenes unfolded just after 8am this morning when the Renault Megane reportedly hit a lamp-post and overturned on a roundabout next to the Vue cinema in Coliseum Leisure Park near the designer shopping outlet.

Pictures from journalist Lois York show the car upside down and emergency services at the scene.

One witness told Cheshire Live that "a man was on floor in handcuffs at the scene".

Police confirmed the Megane driver had been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to hospital to be checked over.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "At around 8.10am on Wednesday police were called to reports of a collision on Kinsey Road in Ellesmere Port.

"Officers attended the scene and that the collision involved one vehicle, a beige Renault Meganne, which had overturned on the roundabout."

He added: "The driver of the car, a 45-year-old man from Ellesmere Port, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving. He has since been taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital as a precautionary measure.”
