Suspected drink driver crashes after leaving M6 services on wrong side

A suspected drink driver had a lucky escape after leaving an M6 service station on the wrong side of the motorway.

The motorist crashed into two other vehicles before coming to a stop south of Junction 33.

The 71-year-old was heading south on the northbound carriageway after leaving Forton Services near Lancaster just before 6pm yesterday (January 8).

He suffered injuries to his chest and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called at 17:58 hours yesterday (8 January) to reports a car was travelling the wrong way down the northbound carriageway of the M6 motorway close to Forton Services.

"The car was later involved in a collision with two vehicles. The driver of the car, a 71 year old man, suffered chest injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Nobody else was seriously injured."

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dash cam footage of the incident, to email 2076@lancashire.pnn.police.uk
