Suspected drink driver causes this horrific crash on the M4 Severn bridge

A crash on the M4 Severn bridge was "total carnage" and was caused by a suspected drink driver, police have said.

Gwent Police said that the driver of the car involved has been arrested after the crash earlier this morning, Good Friday.

Two lanes were closed westbound, and one lane eastbound due to debris, just after 6am on the motorway bridge.

Police said that the engine from the car was "propelled" into the opposite lanes, adding they were shocked no one was killed.

A social media account from the force said: "Total carnage for the rush hour commuters this morning because of drink driving.

"How this didn't end in serious if not fatal injuries I don't know.

"Both carriageways had closures as the engine was propelled into the opposite lanes. Driver arrested. Thanks for your patience".
