Suspected drink driver arrested after major crash on flyover

A man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a crash on the busy Queens Drive flyover last night.

Emergency services were called to the scene, close to The Rocket junction in Broadgreen , shortly before 7.30pm after reports of a crash .

It is believed that one car, driven by a suspected drink driver, was involved in a crash with another vehicle before paramedics and police officers arrived at the scene.

The driver was reportedly checked over by ambulance staff before he was arrested and taken into custody.

One witness described the driver suffering a seizure behind the wheel and having to be freed from the vehicle.

She told the ECHO: "We had to smash his car windows in to get him out whilst he was having a seizure."

A spokesman for Merseyside Police told the ECHO: "Officers were called to Queens Drive at 7.25pm to reports of a one vehicle road traffic collision.

"The driver of the car sustained minor injuries but was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving and taken into custody.

"Thankfully no other drivers or passengers were involved in the collision.

"Road closures are currently in place and drivers should avoid the area if possible. We thank them for their patience as we deal with the incident."
