Police are investigating the suspected murder of two people in Capel in Western Australia's South West region.

Officers are at the scene on Berkshire Street in the small country town, 200 kilometres south of Perth, after responding to calls for assistance about 8:15am on Friday.

Two people — a 74-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man — were found dead inside a home.

A man, 47, who was also in the home, is in custody and assisting police with their inquiries.

Police have confirmed the elderly man and woman were known to the 47-year-old man.

South West Police Superintendent Geoff Stewart said the man had been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and police are determining the identity of the two victims.

He said the homicide squad is on its way to Capel and that there was no threat to the community.

"Our thoughts are with the people involved, their family and the community of Capel," SuperIntendent Stewart said.

Tragedy strikes South West again

It comes less than a month after local farmer John Della Franca faced court, charged with murdering father-of-three Tony Ditri in Pemberton

"We have just dealt with another community in the South West that had a homicide investigation and that community is reeling," Supt Stewart said.

"It was shocking for the community [of Pemberton] and they are going through a lot of pain.

He urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

"Even if you think it might not be big or someone else might have said something, pick up the phone and call Crime Stoppers and investigators will speak to them."

Collie-Preston MP Jodie Hanns said the deaths would rock the small community.

"It's a very sad situation and my thoughts are with the family, friends and particularly the Capel community," she said.

"It's really difficult in small communities at times like this."

Capel shire president Michael Southwell said the dead man had worked at the council for 20 years before his retirement, and the news had sent shockwaves through the community.

"[The couple] were popular, well known and members of quite a few local groups and associations," he said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
