Suspected crook hid behind wheelie bin in daft attempt to escape officers... and police helicopter

A suspected crook tried to hide behind a wheelie bin as he was chased by officers - and a police helicopter.

Police were called to reports of a car being stolen during a burglary in Greylag Crescent, Worsley, on Wednesday evening (July 15).

The car was spotted on Coniston Avenue in Little Hulton this afternoon (Thursday).

A police helicopter was scrambled to find the driver, according to Inspector Katie-Louise Allen of Greater Manchester Police's Swinton and Little Hulton neighbourhood team.

When officers on the ground made it to the scene, those inside the car scarpered.

One of them hid behind a wheelie bin at one point. It didn't work.

He was arrested and taken in for questioning.

The stolen vehicle has now been recovered and is being reunited with its owners.
