Concerned healthcare workers with coronavirus symptoms have been told to travel to Edinburgh for a Covid-19 test - despite being as far away as Northampton.
One hospital worker with symptoms in York requested a test through the UK Government's website and was told her nearest test centre was Edinburgh Airport.
Edinburgh Live can confirm accounts from across the UK of symptomatic people being told to get tested in Edinburgh, despite being miles away.
The York worker demanded answers from Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
Edinburgh Live contacted The Department of Health and Social Care who confirmed that the incident was not an error with the website.
A spokesperson said it was happening: "Because there is a daily limit to the number of tests available and people are offered the nearest testing centre with available capacity.
"Thousands more slots across the country are made available each day."
When asked by Edinburgh Live if people should attempt to travel to Edinburgh for testing despite the lockdown, the UK government commented: "More tests should be available on a subsequent day.
"If they work in healthcare they should be able to book a test through their employer."
Ill people with suspected Covid-19 from across the UK say they too have been sent to the Scottish Capital for testing despite being nowhere near it:
Edinburgh Live has reached out to The Scottish Government to ask if they plan to accept people from across the UK.
They declined to comment on "UK Government testing."
