Suspected burglars arrested after being double teamed by neighbours

Two suspected burglars have been arrested after being double teamed by neighbours.

Police were called to York Street in Altrincham just before midnight on Wednesday night.

It's understood the victim had been watching TV upstairs in his home when he heard the lock of his door being tampered with.

He went downstairs to investigate the noise, and discovers two men inside his house.

The pair see him and run out through the front door, but the victim chases after them.

A neighbour, who had been outside smoking a cigarette at the time, helped him to catch the men before pinning them both down on the ground until police arrived.

PC Andrew Walsh, from the GMP Trafford team, said officers arrived quickly and the men - one aged 31 and the other 41 - were arrested on suspicion of burglary.

They remain in custody for questioning.

He added that neighbours both used appropriate force when detaining the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
