Suspected burglar stabbed in stomach as home 'break in' turns violent

A suspected burglar was stabbed during a break-in that turned violent in St Helens.

A second man was assaulted during the reported burglary, which unfolded in the early hours of this morning.

Six men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police were called to reports of a break-in on Parr Stocks Road at 3.30am today.

Officers attending the incident stopped two men who are believed to have made off in the direction of Ramford Street.

One was arrested on suspicion of burglary and the other taken to hospital with a stab wound to his stomach.

Patrols attending the property arrested five men on suspicion of wounding. They have been taken into custody for questioning.

The man who was assaulted inside the house was taken to hospital, though his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The incident led to Parr Stocks Road, from the fire station to its junction with Morgan Street, being closed to traffic.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.
