Suspected burglar arrested after being hit over the head with rock

A suspected burglar was taken to hospital after being hit over the head with a rock.

Police were called to Dumers Lane in Radcliffe , Bury , at around 10.30pm on Wednesday night to reports of a disturbance outside on the street.

A 25-year-old man is understood to have suffered a head injury after being hit with a 'large stone'.

He was taken to hospital, but later discharged himself.

The man was then arrested by police on suspicion of burglary and taken back to hospital due to the nature of his injury.

Officers are now waiting to question him.

Exact circumstances surrounding the 'disturbance' are currently unclear.

The road was understood to have been taped off while officers dealt with the incident.

A spokesman for GMP said: "We were called to reports of a disturbance on Dumers Lane at 10.30pm.

"A 25-year-old man suffered a head injury believed to have been caused by a large stone and went to hospital for treatment.

"He was arrested on suspicion of burglary after discharging himself and taken back to hospital.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

The North West Ambulance Service added: "We sent two ambulances to the scene and one patient was taken to hospital."
