Suspected bank robber shot and killed by police after chase in Chino

Feb. 05--A suspected bank robber pulled a heist in Corona before leading police on a chase that ended in his fatal shooting, authorities said Thursday.

The Corona Police Department said the robbery occurred just after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Pacific Premier Bank in the 100 block of East 6th Street in Corona.

After allegedly carjacking a mini-van, the man then led officers on a pursuit that ended in Chino, where the vehicle crashed near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Pine Street, police said.

The man was then fatally shot by police, officials said. Few details about the shooting have been released.

San Bernardino County sheriff's Det. Gary Hart said investigators were still at the scene. He did not say whether a weapon was recovered or what led to the fatal shooting.

The man has not been identified by coroner's officials.

The shooting by the Corona police is being investigated the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, which is routine, and the bank robbery is being investigated by the Corona Police Department.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the shooting is asked to call the Corona Police Department at (951) 736-2330 and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department at (909) 387-3700.
