Suspected arsonist appears in court after Stanley house fire

A suspected arsonist has appeared in court following a house fire in Stanley.

Kelly Rose, of Elm Street, South Moor, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court charged with arson.

Rose was arrested at the scene of a house fire on Elm Street, which happened at around 11.30pm on May 7.

The 50-year-old did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody to appear at Durham Crown Court on June 5.

Two ambulances from the North East Ambulance Service attended the incident.

A man was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

A Durham Constabulary spokeswoman said: "We were called by the fire service to attend a house fire at a property in Elm Street, in South Moor, shortly after 11.30pm on May 7.

"A man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation, but thankfully nobody suffered any significant injuries during the incident.

"A 50-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and charged with arson."
