Witnesses hold down suspect after he robbed a ride-share driver and damaged two cars in Lakeview

Witnesses held down a suspect for police after he robbed a ride-share driver and damaged two cars in Lakeview on the North Side early Friday.

The attack occurred around 12:50 a.m. in the 3400 block of North Clark Street when a man approached a ride-share driver stopped at a light and demanded she take him home, police said.

He struck the woman’s hand and took her cell phone from her dashboard, then jumped on the hood of her car and broke her windshield, police said.

He damaged the rear side door of another ride-share car in the 3300 block of North Clark Street and was held down by witnesses until officers arrived, authorities said.

The suspect was taken into custody and no injuries were reported.
