Police have since launched inquiries at two properties and officers remained at both on Wednesday.

As well as the New Ferry Road house the man’s body was found in, a property around two miles away in Egerton Park has also been the subject of interest from Merseyside Police.

Forensic and house-to-house enquiries have been carried out as part of the investigation so far.

The force said it had arrested a 59-year-old man from Wirral on suspicion of murder on Tuesday.

It confirmed he remained in custody on Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone with any information that could help the investigation is asked to contact Merseyside Police by calling 101 or via Twitter (@MerPolCC).
