Who is starring in Suspect?

Channel 4 has announced a star-studded cast for a new eight-part crime thriller as an adaptation of Christoffer Boe’s hit Danish series “Forhøret.”

James Nesbitt will lead the cast for the new series as Danny Fraser, alongside Outlander 's Sam Heughan, Sex Education's Anne-Marie Duff, and Loki 's Richard E. Grant.

When Sam revealed the exciting news he was cast in the drama, he told fans on Instagram: "What a cast! And brilliant creative team. So excited. Having a blast shooting this with the excellent @driesvos (though I don't understand a word he says)."

Danny will meet key figures in Christina's life including her partner Nicola, her best friend Maia, her business partner Jaisal, her godfather Ryan, her mentor Harry and her mother, Danny's ex-wife Susannah.

Through his journey, Danny will learn about his daughter's descent into delinquency and be forced to confront his own failings as a father whilst struggling to determine what really happened.

The cast also includes Joely Richardson, Ben Miller, Niamh Algar, Antonia Thomas, Sacha Dhawan and Imogen King.

What do we know about the plot?

According to the Channel 4 synopsis:

“When veteran detective Danny Frater (James Nesbitt) turns up at a hospital mortuary for what he thinks is a routine ID check on a young woman’s body, he gets a devastating shock; the corpse turns out to be his estranged daughter, Christina (Imogen King).

“He sets out on a mission for the truth, retracing her last days and hours, in an agonising crusade to discover what really happened to his only child.”

Danny is informed that Christina ended her own life, but refusing to accept that, he uncovers truths and lies that will leave viewers gripped by each episode.

After talking to those closest to her, he begins to get a picture of how Christina’s life had descended, which forces him to confront his own failings as a father.

Ultimately though, Danny has to decide who, if anyone, is responsible for Christina’s death.

What has been said about Suspect?

Speaking about the series, James Nesbitt, said: "I could relate to Danny, with his flaws, vulnerabilities and the devastating situation he faces, from the very first moment I picked up the script.

"Each episode of Suspect (w/t) is an intensely theatrical double-hander, a psychological battle of wits between Danny and another character who may know something about his daughter's untimely death, and I really can't wait to lock horns with my fellow cast members and to lead this incredible array of acting talent."

Channel 4 Head of Drama, Caroline Hollick, said she is “delighted” to welcome Nesbitt back to Channel 4 in “this gripping, visceral thriller.” She continued, “It’s a testament to James’ star power and Matt’s gripping scripts that Suspect has attracted such a sensationally stellar ensemble cast.”
