Suspect released after man shot in face and girl, 12, hit by car

A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a driver was blasted in the face by a shotgun in Croxteth was released under investigation.

A 12-year-old girl was also struck by the car driver as he tried to flee the shooting.

She was was out trick or treating on Halloween and was dragged under the vehicle in Sceptre Road on Thursday evening.

The 22-year-old driver suffered serious facial injuries from the gunshots and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

The girl was reversed into by the car as it tried to escape the targeted attack.

She was dragged for several feet down the road and suffered injuries to her skull, back and spine . She is receiving treatment at Alder Hey childrens' hospital, where she is in a stable condition.

The driver, who left the vehicle covered in blood, waited by the roadside until the girl's family arrived.

Witnesses told how six women, including the girl's auntie, helped lift the vehicle and free the injured trick or treater trapped underneath.

Police said enquiries into the incident were continuing.
