Suspect named after two banks burgled

A man was charged after two town centre banks were broken into and burgled in the space of two weeks.

Merseyside Police was called to two separate incidents in the space of two weeks in Huyton town centre. On Tuesday, November 8 police launched an investigation following a burglary at Lloyds bank on Sherborne Square.

Officers received reports a man broke into the bank and stole a "quantity of cash" before making off on a bike at around 2.35am. A week later on Tuesday, November 15 it was reported a man had smashed through the front of Halifax bank on Derby Road.

Officers attending the scene entered the bank at around 4am and found the suspect carrying several items believed to be stolen. Images taken by the ECHO the following day showed a police cordon around the front of a bank and a smashed front window.

Merseyside Police confirmed today that Joseph Andrew Thomson was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of going equipped for theft, and theft from a motor vehicle. The 46-year-old, of St Chads Drive, Kirkby, remains in custody and appeared at Wirral Magistrates' Court today, Wednesday, November 16.
