Suspect named after teen seriously hurt in 'machete' attack

A man was charged after an 18-year-old was seriously injured in a "machete" attack.

Cheshire police investigating the attack in Ellesmere Port confirmed that Joseph Farrell, of Bridge Street, Birkenhead, has been charged with section 18 assault. The attack, which police said involved weapons, took place on Westminster Road on Thursday, July 14, at around 5.17pm.

As well as the assault charge, Farrell, 21, was has also been held on possession of a weapon in a public place, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, and handling stolen goods. He is set to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court today.

Police said the victim, who had suffered serious injuries, was airlifted to hospital. Witnesses claimed to see the suspects arrive at the scene in a small grey SUV-type vehicle before getting out and carrying out the attack. They then left in the SUV.

Witnesses also told the ECHO "machetes" were used, however, police have not yet released information on what type of weapons may have been involved.
