Suspect named after series of robberies with 'imitation' gun

A man has been charged on suspicion of a series of robberies where staff believed he could have had a gun.

Gareth Thomas Hunter has been charged following a reported robbery in Prescot on Friday, April 15. The 44-year-old, of Grentwood Road, Huyton, was reported to be threatening staff in Betfred holding what staff believed could have been a weapon concealed in a bag.

Hunter made off from the bookies on Eccleston Street with £50 cash. Following extensive Merseyside Police enquiries he was arrested and charged with three counts of robbery and two counts of possession of an imitation firearm.

Hunter was remanded in custody and appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Monday, April 18.

A second man was also arrested following the robbery at the Betfred shop and released under investigation. The 24-year-old male Prescot was arrested on suspicion of robbery, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, possession of cannabis and possession with intent to supply ketamine.
