A suspect was today named by police after being charged with attacking a rough sleeper who was kicked to the face in a city centre attack.
The development comes after a video surfaced showing a rough sleeper being shouted at and kicked outside the Tesco Express on Dale Street.
The incident happened on Wednesday, December 9 and showed a man sitting on the footpath in a sleeping bag.
He is then approached by another man as he sits defenceless with his arms tucked inside the sleeping bag.
After gesturing angrily in the victim's face, a man can be seen to look away before turning back and delivering a violent kick straight to the man's face.
Today Merseyside Police named the man they have charged over the attack and an alleged drug offence.
A spokesman said: "We have charged a 24 year-old man with assault by beating following an incident on Dale Street in Liverpool city centre on Wednesday 9th December.
"Theo Maulba, of no fixed abode, was also charged with possession of a controlled drug Class B."
