Suspect named after householder finds 'burglar' inside home

A suspect has been charged after a householder confronted an alleged intruder inside their home.

A man was arrested on Sunday after police were called to Hobb Lane in Moore near Runcorn shortly after 1pm on Saturday.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said officers had received reports of a man inside the address.

The man had left the house before police arrived.

Alan Cotton, of Fallowfield, Halton Brook, Runcorn, has since been charged with aggravated burglary and appeared at North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court in Warrington yesterday.

He was remanded in custody for a hearing at Chester Crown Court on Monday, August 16.

Court papers said the allegation includes having a knife and stealing a watch.

A clip widely shared on social media believed to be of the incident shows a man with a carrier bag being verbally challenged by someone.

Speaking yesterday a Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: “Shortly after 1pm on Saturday, July 17, police were called to Hobb Lane in Moore following reports of a man inside an address.

"The man subsequently left the property prior to police arrival .

“Following an investigation, officers arrested a 50-year-old man at an address in Runcorn on Sunday, July 18 and he was taken into custody.

“Alan Cotton, of Fallowfield in Runcorn, has since been charged with aggravated burglary and is due to appear at Warrington magistrates’ court on Monday, July 19.”
