Suspect named after heroin and cocaine EncroChat bustRoad

A suspect has been named following an arrest made as part of the ongoing Encrochat crackdown.

Merseyside Police has confirmed that a man from Southport has been named in a recent drug bust as part of Operation Venetic, an ongoing operation into criminals using encrypted mobile devices, commonly known as EncroChat, to source and supply drugs up and down the country. The suspect, George Powell, 40, of Hillside Road, Southport, was arrested yesterday (Thursday, July 21).

Powell was then charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs (heroin and cocaine) and class B drugs (cannabis). He has been remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court tomorrow, Saturday, July 23.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "A Southport man has been charged with drugs offences as part of an ongoing investigation into drugs supply in Merseyside. George Powell, 40, of Hillside Drive, was arrested yesterday (Thursday 21 July) and charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs (cocaine and heroin) and Class B drugs (cannabis)."

"He has been remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court tomorrow, Saturday 23 rd July. The charges form part of the Merseyside Police response to Operation Venetic: a national investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices, commonly referred to as Encrochat."
