Suspect named after boy, 13, killed in horror crash

A man has been charged after a 13-year-old boy died in a fatal collision.

Jack Worwood was walking to meet his friends to play football around 4.30pm on Tuesday, when he was hit by a car on Old Road, Ashton in Makerfield.

He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, but sadly died on Wednesday afternoon surrounded by his family.

Liam Wilson, 21, of Livingstone Street, Ashton-in-Makerfield has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and assault by beating of an emergency worker.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Wigan Magistrates Court today.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson added: "At around 4.30pm on Tuesday 7 July 2020, police were called to reports of a collision between a car and a 13-year-old boy on Old Road, Ashton in Makerfield.

"The boy, 13-year-old Jack Worwood, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he sadly died the next day."

Jack's dad, Andrew Worwood, paid tribute to his son yesterday on Facebook.

He said: "Rest in peace my little man , you didn't deserve this, I'm so so so so sorry, love you always and forever jack.

"Fly with the angels, you will forever be a part of me and I will never ever forget you."
