Man charged with attempted murder in shooting of ex-Giants QB Anthony Wright

The man accused of shooting former New York Giants quarterback Anthony Wright multiple times was arrested in Graham, North Carolina, on Wednesday, reports WITN-TV.

William Hooker Jr., the ex-boyfriend of Wright’s girlfriend, was taken into custody and charged with attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Police said Hooker arrived to drop off his daughter on Wednesday morning when he and Wright exchanged words. After a few moments of heated argument, Hooker allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at Wright several times before leaving the scene.

Hooker was released on $150,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for July 8.

Wright remains hospitalized following emergency surgery and was said to be in stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon.

Wright was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1999. He later joined the Dallas Cowboys (2000-2001), Baltimore Ravens (2002-2005) and Cincinnati Bengals (2006) before landing with the Giants in 2007.

With Big Blue, Wright served in a backup role alongside Jared Lorenzen, who died at age 38 on Wednesday, earning a Super Bowl XLII ring.
