Suspect in fatal Las Vegas road rage incident arrested

Feb. 19--The man suspected of fatally shooting a Las Vegas woman after an apparent road rage incident last week has been taken into custody, police said.

The unidentified man was arrested around 1 p.m. after a standoff with police. The suspect was being taken to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department headquarters to be interviewed, said police spokesman Capt. Chris Tomaino.

The standoff was in a neighborhood southwest of downtown Las Vegas, police said.

An emotional Robert Meyers, husband of victim Tammy Meyers, was at the scene of the standoff.

"There's the animal, a block away," Meyers screamed to TV cameras.

A neighbor of the suspect told TV news that she heard police over a loudspeaker telling the suspect to come out of the house with his hands up or to at least come to the window so police could see that he was not harmed.

Another neighbor, Linda Watson, told the Los Angeles Times that it appears the suspect lived a block and a half away from the Meyers family.

Tammy Meyers, 44, was giving her 15-year-old daughter a driving lesson Feb. 12 when she was involved in a confrontation with another driver. Police initially said Meyers and her daughter had gone home after the incident and were calling for help when a car pulled up and someone inside opened fire.

Police now say that Meyers, after returning home, went out searching for the other driver. She was joined by her 22-year-old son, who had a gun. The pair drove around looking for a gray or silver sedan. Meyers and her son found the vehicle, police said, and followed it for a while before Meyers decided to go home.

When they got home, a silver or gray sedan drove into their cul-de-sac, police said, and someone began shooting at them. Meyers' son returned fire, and the car sped off. Meyers was hit. She died two days later after being taken off of life support, her family said.
