Suspect held in connection with daylight shooting in street

A suspect has been questioned in connection with an investigation into a daylight shooting in south Liverpool.

Police swooped on a man from Prescot as they raided a home on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, as well as on suspicion of possession of cocaine and cannabis.

He has since been released under investigation.

The raid was the latest development in a probe that started back in May.

Armed police were called to Chesterton Street in Garston at 1.45pm on May 11 following reports of gunfire.

Evidence of a shooting was found on the street, though nobody was injured in the attack.

Chesterton Street, and part of the surrounding area, was closed off while inquiries took place.

Speaking at the time, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Smith said: "To fire a weapon in a residential area in the daytime is incredibly reckless.

"Thankfully on this occasion, it appears nobody was injured, but we're determined to put those involved before the courts."
