Suspect drink driver crashed into traffic signpost in Salford

A suspected drink driver collided with a traffic signpost - leaving their car in a bizarre state.

Police and fire crews were called to reports of the crash at around 8.45pm last night (November 7).

When they arrived at the scene on Moor Lane in Salford, they found the Peugeot half-suspended in the air after crashing into the neon signpost.

It is understood that no pedestrians were nearby at the time.

Crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended and assisted with making the area safe.

The driver of the Peugeot was arrested, and following a roadside breath test, they provided a positive result of 83 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

In a picture shared online, the black vehicle can be seen to have extensive damage to the front bumper and is half suspended in the air.

In a tweet, GMP Traffic said: "#TrafficPCSO attended @GMPSalford tonight, after this vehicle collided with a traffic signpost.

"Fortunately no pedestrians nearby. @manchesterfire attended and made the scene safe.

"@gmptraffic #XT54 arrested the driver, who provided a positive sample of breath (83) #fatal4"

A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 8.45pm on Saturday 6 November, firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Moor Lane, Salford.

“One fire engine from Broughton fire station was quickly at the scene. The incident involved a car colliding with a lamp post and bollard.

“Firefighters helped make the area safe before handing over to colleagues from Greater Manchester Police.

“GMFRS crews were in attendance for approximately half an hour.”
