Suspect device found in Swords as gardai and bomb squad rush to seal off laneway

Gardai and the Army bomb squad rushed to seal off a Swords laneway after a suspect device was found this morning.

Officers were spotted at the scene after the initial discovery was made by a local.

The alarm was raised to the Army and the path linking Glasmore Park with Rathbeale Road and the local JC's Supermarket was closed off at around 11am.

The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit and gardai descended on the North Dublin town with several vehicles seen parked at JC's Supermarket on Rathbeale Road.

The Army stood down the operation just after 2pm this afternoon.

The suspect device was reportedly located near the back shed of a property at the lane.

An Armed Forces spokesperson told Dublin Live that the device was found to be non-viable.

Gardai said "a suspect device was sighted in the area and Gardaí were alerted to the incident".

They added that investigations are ongoing.
