A suspect has been charged after a man was left fighting for his life following a fight in Southwark.

Police were called by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service to Borough High Street at just before 3am on Saturday, following reports of an altercation between two men.

Officers found a non-responsive man at the scene.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and remains there in a critical condition, the Met Police said.

Lewis Macleod, from Hadleigh Road in Sunderland, has since been charged with one count of causing grievous bodily harm and one count of actual bodily harm.

The 36-year-old will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
