Suspect arrested in break-in of boat in Diversey Harbor

June 10--A man suspected of breaking into a boat at Diversey Harbor and making himself at home for several days has been arrested after police were tipped to the motel where he was staying, authorities said.

The man was picked up on an outstanding arrest warrant issued when he failed to appear in court June 3 on a burglary charge from May. Charges are pending for the boat break-in, authorities said.

The owner of the boat, Ramon Beaulieu, told police he discovered the break-in early Friday when he returned from a two-week business trip to Michigan.

There were ashes, crumbs and yellow and pink stains across the floor of the living space. A pair of someone else's white gym shoes were in the corner. The bed and toilet were a mess. His camera, phone and kitchen knives were missing, as well as food and liquor from the kitchen cabinets.

Beaulieu also found a plastic bag stuffed with court documents for the man now in custody.

The suspect was arrested around 10 a.m. Tuesday at a motel in the 6100 block of North Jersey Avenue in Chicago, according to the Cook County sheriff"s office.

The man was being held at Cook County Jail, charged with escape for not complying with court-ordered electronic monitoring and with failure to appear at a hearing.
