Suspect arrested after man shot in Liverpool city centre

A man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into a shooting in Liverpool city centre.

The 27-year-old is set to be questioned on suspicion of possession of a firearm after being detained by police.

His arrest follows a gun attack that left saw a man blasted in one of his legs on Colquitt Street on Thursday night.

Detectives believe he was shot inside an block of apartments on the street.

The road was cordoned off by Merseyside Police after emergency services were called to the incident at around 11pm.

On Friday morning a significant police presence remained at the scene, where bloodied footprints showed the victim's efforts to search for help.

The man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital but has since been released.

Appealing for information, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Smith said: “We are working to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, and saw or heard any suspicious behaviour, to please get in touch.

“Gun crime will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police, and an extensive investigation is now underway.

"I would continue to urge anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to please contact us, as any information could prove vital to our investigation.”
